Too many adventures, not enough time – and could I have a personal assistant, please?

13 Jan

Someone to take care of all the grown-up stuff so I could go and write and enjoy nature – that would be lovely. Unfortunately I’ll have to work on that rich-and-famous plan for a while before a PA becomes an option. Well, nevermind.

It’s just… everyday life is eating up all my creative time, and even though I know I am blessed in so many ways (I have a job that keeps me busy beyond official hours and actually pays for extra hours, I have a flat that is almost perfect and a car that is only two years old, two lovely cats and a steady relationship, to mention just a few things…)

The flat is our main area of trouble at the moment. We have old aluminium windowframes – perfect thermal bridges as soon as the temperature drops below 10°C, and water collects on them to drip down onto the floor. I tried convincing our landlady that no matter how good we air the room, heat it up afterwards and no matter how much we mop the floor, water will continue to collect faster than we can get rid of it. She wants nothing of that. “It is your responsibility to heat properly, and if you don’t do that, I will hold you responsible for all damages.”

Instead of discussing with her, I have made an appointment with a TÜV-certified expert (at our own expenses) to assess the material and give a written statement. Hopefully with these documents we can sit down like grown-ups and find a good way to deal with the material problems before there is too much damage to floor and walls.

The tomcat was sick with a UTI and is back to normal, but the vet found traces of crystals and protein in Greebo’s urine, so more tests will be necessary in a few weeks (once UTI-related anomalies can be ruled out) to see whether he has beginning renal problems.

Oh, and I have to get our car to TÜV for assessment. (In case you haven’t heard of it, German cars are mandatorily tested every other year for general safety measures.) It’s due next month – probably not much to worry about, it’s a standard procedure after all, but I have never had to deal with them before, so I feel a bit nervous.

Well, that’s the kind of grown-up stuff I would like to avoid at the moment. Guess it’s just wishful thinking – at least the sun is shining, and all our problems stem from a place of luxury (we can afford to discuss with our landlady, we can afford the vet, we can afford a car), so now I also feel bad about complaining. Time to put on my big girl panties and kick-ass boots and take care of stuff. I have plenty of adventures planned. ^^

Your landlady sounds like a real tool. I hope you guys can fix the window/water problem at a reasonable price–I know moving sucks rotten toes. I also hope dearest Greebo feels better soon.

And we only moved in a bit more than a year ago, I’d rather stay…
